O tamanho dessa propor\u00e7\u00e3o de volume \u00e9 determinado principalmente pela facilidade de misturar a massa e pelo cen\u00e1rio de aplica\u00e7\u00e3o do projeto. Por exemplo, as tens\u00f5es secund\u00e1rias causadas pela retra\u00e7\u00e3o do concreto e pelas mudan\u00e7as de temperatura geralmente s\u00e3o controladas com baixas doses de fibras (0,1% a 0,3% por volume). Quando a dosagem de fibra excede 0,3%, em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com o concreto comum sem fibras, a resposta mec\u00e2nica do concreto refor\u00e7ado com fibra ser\u00e1 significativamente diferente, o que se manifesta principalmente em sua capacidade de suporte ap\u00f3s a fissura\u00e7\u00e3o. A capacidade do concreto refor\u00e7ado com fibras de absorver energia ap\u00f3s a fissura \u00e9 chamada de \"resist\u00eancia\". Quando doses maiores de fibras foram adicionadas ao concreto, al\u00e9m de sua resist\u00eancia p\u00f3s-fissura\u00e7\u00e3o, o concreto refor\u00e7ado com fibras apresentou propriedades de fortalecimento da tens\u00e3o.
