The Advantage of PP Fibers in Shotcrete

TenaBrix® fibers for Shotcrete that complies with ASTM C 1116, Standard Specification for Fiber-Reinforced Shotcrete, and are specifically used to control and mitigate plastic shrinkage cracking, increase surface durability, impact, and abrasion resistance.

TenaBrix® products including macro/micro synthetic fibers provide three-dimensional reinforcement for both above-ground and below ground applications. 

Scope of application

In shotcrete, PP fiber can effectively inhibit plastic shrinkage cracks and improve structural integrity, especially for tunnel lining, slope support and other projects.

FAQ

How can high fiber resilience be solved?

Check the wind pressure: too high wind pressure leads to rebound, adjust to below 0.5MPa.
Optimize the proportion: add micro-silica powder (3~5%) or cellulose ether to improve the bonding.

What about exposed fibers on the surface of the spray coat?

Adjust the spraying angle to the vertical sprayed surface, and lightly press the surface with a steel trowel before final spraying.
If the mixing amount is >2.0kg/m³, it is necessary to increase the mortar protection layer (≥10mm).

What can I do about fibers causing blocked tubes?

Prevention: Use fibers with an L/D ratio of ≤ 100 (e.g. length 19 mm / diameter 0.03 mm).
Emergency: stop spraying immediately, clean the pipe with high-pressure wind, and strictly prohibit water injection!

Anti-cracking effect is not obvious?

Check the fiber dispersion: take the hardened concrete block and crush it, observe whether the fiber distribution is uniform.
Verify the accuracy of mixing amount: the error of each square of concrete should be <±0.1kg.
